At the beginning of this week, there were plenty of important news where Albania was at the center of technological developments. The Hungarian group 4iG finalized cooperation memorandums with Telekom Egypt and the Albanian Government for the construction of a high-capacity subsea line.

Fiber optic cable networks are the digital communication highways, and this initiative aims to redefine the way data is transmitted, offering an alternative and shorter route to major European destinations, where Albania holds a strategic position.

CEO of 4iG Group, Mr. Peter Fekete, gave an interview to one of the major television stations in Albania, revealing more about its benefits and the long-term investment plans that the Hungarian Group intends to implement through One Albania in Albania.

Below you can read excerpts from the interview:

Journalist: Good evening, thank you for joining us tonight. Your recent visit to Albania was quite significant. Could you elaborate on the new submarine cable project you've signed with the Albanian government?

Peter Fekete: Certainly. Recently, we signed a Memorandum of Understanding for a submarine cable system from Egypt to Albania. This project aims to diversify the routes of internet data traffic between the East and the West, utilizing Albania as a strategic gateway.

Journalist: How will this project benefit Albania?

Peter Fekete: Albania's geographical position makes it an ideal point for directing data traffic. The investment of over 100 million euros will create a major data center in Durres, generating hundreds of job opportunities and positioning Albania as a pivotal center for data transmission.

Journalist: With 4iG's extensive presence in Albania, can we expect advancements in the telecommunications infrastructure such as the introduction of 5G?

Peter Fekete: Absolutely. Alongside the submarine cable project, we are investing in expanding fiber networks throughout Albania, laying the groundwork for future technologies like 5G. We anticipate significant progress within the next two to three years.

Journalist: There have been rumors about the possible sale of One Albania company. Can you clarify this?

Peter Fekete: These rumors are unfounded. Our focus remains on fostering partnerships and expanding in the Western Balkans region. Albania has great potential for us, and we are committed to long-term growth here.

Journalist: Finally, do you have any plans to enjoy vacations in Albania soon?

Peter Fekete: Definitely! My family and I are considering spending our summer vacations here. The incomparable Albanian culture, traditions, and cuisine leave a lasting impression continually.
